Great job at the county meet by both the boys and girls MS X-Country teams. The girls, with many new to the sport runners, fielded a full team and finished 4th. The boys, bringing back some strong runners from last year's team, won their 4th straight Wabash County Cross Country Championship.
Cross country races are 1.9 miles in length. Runners traverse many different terrains in one race. Often the courses are difficult with hills, trails, and long open stretches that challenge the athletes to keep a fast pace throughout a race.
Dereck Vogel was the overall champion in the boys race with a time of 11:05. Dereck ran the equivalent of back to back 5:30 miles or so. Whitney Working paced the ladies team, she finished 2nd overall.
Looking forward to following their progress as they continue on this season. Times will continue to drop and much fun will be had by the runners. The next best chance for you to see them run would be 8/30 at the Field of Dreams for the Northfield Invite.
